Paul Hsu and Xiaohua Kong
editThe University is honoured to recognize Paul Hsu (BA 2006, MA 2008) and Xiaohua Kong for their strong commitment and dedication to supporting secondary and post-secondary education and to empowering students through knowledge and education.
A proud UBC alum and Vancouverite, Paul is the Founder and Principal of St. Regis Secondary School, an independent university-style high school officially recognized by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care. The school’s fundamental mission is to promote greater access to quality education and to prepare students to excel in their university education. Students at St. Regis also benefit from a wide variety of learning and extracurricular resources from UBC as they explore their educational and career aspirations.

This collaboration ensures that educational practices benefit from the latest research and insights.
Xiaohua was born in the People’s Republic of China and then immigrated to Japan. After graduating from Keio University (BA 2007), she built a successful career in Tokyo as a financial policy analyst specializing in acquisition and fund management. She now serves as the Chief Financial Officer and one of the Vice-Principals of St. Regis Secondary School.
In addition to their work at St. Regis, Paul and Xiaohua are the founders of New Castle Japan Investment, a transnational investment and property development company specializing in real estate asset acquisition and property redevelopment.
Paul and Xiaohua were inspired to support the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre in recognition of its significant role in connecting UBC with the broader community. As frequent visitors, their contribution is a heartfelt expression of appreciation for how this dedicated space on campus fosters community, celebrates UBC’s history, and inspires the next generation of graduates.
